BalanceBikeToddler
Age is the first thing parents search with, so we counted it: of 23 kids bikes, 19 are still rated at 6 years — the widest stretch of the range — against just 11 for a 2-year-old and 10 for a 12-year-old. Manufacturer age ranges for every model, quoted verbatim, plus what the numbers cannot tell you.
Which kids bikes actually fit at 6 years old — and how the range narrows at both ends
Age is the first thing parents search with, so we organised the catalogue that way. Of the 23 kids bikes we track, 21 publish a manufacturer age range. The choice is widest at 6 years — 19 models are still rated for that age — and it narrows at both ends: only 11 cover a two-year-old, and just 10 reach twelve. Those counts come from the listings themselves, and every span is quoted below.
Every age span on this page is the manufacturer's own claim, read out of listing copy. We have not put a single child on a single bike.
How many kids bikes are still rated at each age
Each row counts the kids bikes whose stated age range still includes that age. Counted from the 21 that publish one; the 2 that do not are listed separately rather than quietly dropped.

The wide middle, not a cliff
Unlike balance bikes, where coverage drops off a cliff at three, kids bike coverage rises to a plateau and only falls away at the two ends:
Between 11 models at two years old and 19 at 6 years, the choice more than doubles — and it stays that wide until 8 years, when it begins to fall to 10 at twelve. The practical consequence: a five- to seven-year-old has the widest selection on this page, while a two-year-old is buying at the very edge of what this category covers and should read the balance bike pages instead.

For a first pedal bike the useful question is not where the boundary sits exactly, but how much of the range is still ahead of your child. 19 6 years · Stated age range: 12–168 months.
What we did with the 2 listings that publish no range
2 of 23 publish no numeric age range at all. Rather than guess a span and quietly include them in the counts above, here they are in the open:
- Glerc — Glerc 20 24 26 Inch Kids Bike, Kids Mountain Bike for Boys and Girls Ages 6+, 21-Speed Skyline BThe specification record carries no numeric range, so we leave them out of every count on this page.
- Glerc — Glerc Petal Girls Bike 12-18 Inch for Ages 2-9, Kids Bike with Training Wheels, Basket & StreameThe specification record carries no numeric range, so we leave them out of every count on this page.
The manufacturer's own words, quoted
Every span below is quoted from the manufacturer's own listing copy, so you can check our reading of it against theirs:
What this data cannot tell you
Four limits worth knowing before you use any of it:
These are manufacturer's own ranges, which are optimistic marketing boundaries, not fit measurements. A bike rated to 8 years does not stop working on the child's ninth birthday — it means the brand aimed it at that window.
Age is the wrong instrument for a pedal bike. What decides whether a 20-inch frame fits is the child's height against the standover height and the lowest seat position — two children inside the same 6–10 year rating can need different frame sizes. We publish the age counts because that is the claim every listing makes and the only one comparable across brands; it is not a fit check.
Sample size is 23 kids bikes. Enough to show how coverage changes by age, not enough to judge individual models.
Nothing here is measured by us. Where the decision matters, check the manufacturer's own specification sheet before buying.
How these counts were produced
- Source: our CMS product specification snapshot (cms-export-1784286890682.json), synced from retailer and manufacturer listings, read on 2026-10-22.
- Field read: the age field each retailer syncs, which usually repeats the same claim two or three times in different words. The first statement carrying a number is the one parsed.
- Deliberately ignored: the top-level ageRange value, which is identical across this category and so carries no per-product information.
- A listing is counted as fitting an age only when the age falls inside its own stated range. Nothing is interpolated, and no gap between two ranges is bridged.
- Re-run with `npm run data:kids-age`. Nothing on this page is typed in by hand.
